Connecting Communities through Clean Water

Connecting Communities through Clean Water

About This Campaign

When I first learned about Wine To Water in the late Spring of 2018, I was compelled to become a part of the global water crisis solution but wasn't sure how to begin. There was no way I could leave my "post" of caring for my family to travel to a remote destination and dig into this effort; still I felt the urge to get involved. As I searched for a way to have a hand in the providing clean water to those in need, I discovered Wine To Water has a Filter Build Program. The program provides individuals the opportunity to assemble water filters allowing them to remain in their community while still being able to make a direct impact in getting clean water to other families around the globe. As I continued to explore, I realized the filters could be built in ten easy steps. At the same time I was researching the filter build program, I was considering ways for my son, Alec, to be more involved in his community, as autism can be quite isolating. This was my ah-ha moment. He could build filters! This would be an amazing opportunity for therapeutic benefits for Alec, not only would the physical manipulation of building filters further develop his fine motor skills, this opportunity would help increase his attention span, expand his social interactions through his involvement with the staff at Wine To Water, and boost his self-esteem; at the same time he would be helping families around the world. For every filter he built, 10 lives would be impacted for 10 years! It was simple! A Win-Win! Through the Summer of 2018, I was able to secure funding for the first 80 filters. Alec is busy building filters and making new connections. He is enjoying much success in this endeavor. In order for this opportunity to continue, additional funding is needed. The ultimate goal would be to provide other individuals with exceptional needs the same opportunity of building filters and providing clean water to those in need. Together, we can connect these diverse communities through clean water. Through this campaign, you will not only be supporting those with the most basic need of clean water, you will be showing the world, broken crayons still color and together we will tumble the shameful walls of exclusion. Please be all in with us!

Wine To Water

Campaign to Support Wine To Water

We're a small team based in Boone, NC, who believes ordinary people, in community, can make an extraordinary difference in the world.  This movement began in 2004 when our founder, Doc Hendley, while bartending in Raleigh, NC, learned about the world’s water crisis.  Once captured by the cause, Doc felt the need to do something about it.  So, he did. He did what he knew best…pour some wine, beer, and spirits, play some music, and have a great time with friends. When it was all said and done, a few thousand dollars was raised due to the generosity of the community.  With some money in hand, Doc soon found himself in Darfur, in the midst of a war, working to provide clean water to those who were in desperate need in desperate times.  Thus, Wine To Water was born.
